Two new parks: Capitol Reef and Blue Ridge Parkway

Capitol Reef mapFor the latest update, I split things geographically, adding in Capitol Reef Maps and Blue Ridge Parkway Maps. With Capitol Reef, I’ve now finished up with all of Utah’s designated national parks, although there’s still much more to go (Dinosaur National Monument, Glen Canyon National Recreation Area, etc.) in terms of National Park Service lands.

Blue Ridge Parkway mapBlue Ridge Parkway is unique in that it’s my first page that isn’t a designated national park. Yep – it finally happened – I’ve started branching out beyond the parks! Truthfully there aren’t many parks left, although there are still a few to go such as Lassen Volcanic, Voyageurs, and others in Alaska and the Pacific. But will Fall approaching, I figured I should skip ahead to get the Blue Ridge finished before the trees start turning, as it’ll soon be the busiest time of the year on the parkway.

Pinnacles National Park and a couple Alaska ones

Now added: the newest designated national park: Pinnacles National Park maps! This was a bit tricky since not even the park itself has the newest maps online; all their maps still say “Pinnacles National Monument” on them and don’t have the newest construction. Fortunately, I know the secret as to where the newest maps are kept and was able to get it up online here.

I also created two new Alaska pages: Katmai National Park maps and Kenai Fjords National Park maps. Kenai Fjords in particular was a lot of fun since some of those maps come off the park’s wayside exhibits – it’s nice to be able to download and/or print off a copy in advance of even arriving there. You’ll also notice with these Alaska parks that I’m working on improving navigation a bit – adding sidebars to related parks to help you find other maps you might need quickly and easily. It’ll be a slow process to go through the older pages and create unique sidebars for each one, but that’ll be coming down the pipeline next.

Getting better and better every day!

The hits just keep on coming! Redwoods updated and North Cascades added

Three updates in three weeks? Impossible, you say? Well here I am with another update, hoping this recent round of productivity is not just a fluke. Today I managed to update my pitiful Redwood National Park Maps page with a few of the campground maps. Redwoods is a bit unique in that the national park and state parks in the area are managed jointly, so technically the campgrounds are in the state parks. But no matter – to the visitors, it doesn’t really make a difference. (Except state park fees are generally higher than national parks – oops!)

I also finished up the third and final park in Washington State: North Cascades. Many states now are all “finished” in terms of national parks, although there is much to do in terms of adding other lands managed by the National Park Service. Still – baby steps!

Three new parks! (A faster update this time)

Less than two weeks between updates this time! Back in February I made my first update after 11 months and thought I’d be able to spend more time on the site. Well, sadly that didn’t happen, as it took until two weeks ago to make my next update. Yet here I am now, with another one for you! I’m approaching the end of the 59 national parks and will likely be starting soon on national seashores, national monuments, and national recreation areas.

Virgin Islands St Thomas mapThis update has three new pages: Theodore Roosevelt National Park maps, Virgin Islands maps, and Great Basin National Park maps. In particular, I especially like the Virgin Islands page as it contains maps for the park but also locations on other islands. The maps are much more colorful and attractive than the typical park map; I hope this trend continues with future National Park Service maps.

Thanks so much for your patience!

Five new park pages: Cuyahoga Valley, Channel Islands, Black Canyon, Glacier Bay, and Hot Springs

After a long hiatus, I added some new parks today. Here are the new five:

What’s my excuse for taking so long in between updates? Well, I don’t have a great one to be honest, other than the fact that life is busier than when I first started this site. The magnitude of the project can seem overwhelming to me at times, especially considering I still want to create dozens of new pages and add many more maps to the pages I’ve already created. With so much work to do, it is pretty daunting when I just have a scattered few hours here and there.

But I have been seeing my traffic numbers climbing this summer, which gave me a kick in the rear to start putting in some more time again. Can I keep it up this time? I hope so. Thanks for your patience as this site very slowly comes together. 🙂
