This is the official NPS Congaree National Park map, identical to the one handed out at the park visitor center. It was last updated in 2022 and includes a 2011 boundary change that added more land to the park.

Congaree trail maps

This is a Congaree boardwalk map, labeling sites along the 2.6-mile boardwalk that correspond with stops on the self-guided tour. You can pick up a tour guide brochure at the start for stop descriptions.

Here’s a Congaree boardwalk bench map, labeling all benches along this route. During your visit, sections of the boardwalk may be closed for repair, so check in at the Harry Hampton Visitor Center beforehand.

Congaree lodging map

If you’re staying overnight somewhere when visiting Congaree, it’s a pretty sure bet that you’ll be staying in Columbia, SC. It may seem overwhelming, so I normally like to start by looking at Expedia’s top-rated Columbia lodging to narrow it down based on price, reviews, location, and photos.

Assorted Congaree maps

This is a Congaree paddling map. This map comes from the Congaree River Blue Trail brochure (PDF download), which includes an additional upstream map of this 50-mile designated recreational paddling trail.

This regional Congaree map shows the park in relation to the major roads of Columbia, South Carolina, and provides directions to the park from the Columbia Metropolitan Airport.

Here’s a Congaree wilderness map, showing the 80% of Congaree lands that are designated wilderness. Wilderness areas have the highest degree of permanent protection any U.S. land can have.

Congaree science maps

The Congaree geologic map really hits home how much of the park is floodplain in comparison to bedrock. View the map below to see a legend identifying each rock layer.

For the scientists, here’s a vegetation map of Congaree, identifying the various types of forest found in the park with their Latin names (and shows other types of land use as well).

As the National Park releases new maps of Congaree National Park, I do my best to add them to this page. As old maps get updated, I move them down to this section. These maps aren’t the most recent, but I preserve them here anyway to help tell the story of how national parks change over time.
